Mission
Sustainable Cascadia exists to foster collaboration, education and collective action to achieve bioregional sustainability in one generation.
Vision
Sustainable Cascadia provides convening, a collaborative framework and education to help citizens and organizations feel inspired and empowered to take responsibility and achieve sustainability. Sustainable Cascadia helps communities identify and develop strategies that meet the challenges of sustainability far into the future. Communities work together to plan and act in ways that result in the harmonious solution of economic, social, and ecological concerns.
NGOs, governmental agencies, and corporations all participate and provide leadership to this community-driven, action-oriented process of change. People work together to put aside fragmented and competing ways of operating. People function collectively in service to the needs of the many and the commons that we share. We effectively steward the natural systems that support all life. Decision-making and policy-setting to progress toward a sustainable Cascadia is supported by our best scientific understanding and use of indigenous knowledge.
In the process of taking responsibility to achieve sustainability, people rediscover and strengthen their sense of place and belonging. They rebuild faith in one another and our ability to effect positive change. Communities become stewards of the places they live, based on a wise understanding of our interdependence with each other and the environment. We learn and grow personally and collectively. We move past daunting challenges to empowered collective resolve to enthusiasm to achieve sustainability.
