1. Cascadia Convergence 2007 (October 26-27) was the kickoff/launch of Sustainable Cascadia's intention to host a 5 year process of collaboration, by extending an invitation to the public, NGOs, government agencies, and the business community to become engaged and commit to action. Conference design developed by Sustainable Cascadia and collaborating hosts introduced a 5 year plan, invited partners, offered awareness on why the need for full stakeholder participation, and celebrated the future. The conference hosted collaborative dialogues among a number of developing communities at different geographic scales.

Conclusions are informing next steps for the Sustainable Cascadia initiative. Over time, the infrastructure to support ongoing work at the annual Convergence and in between events is being developed as the needs are identified and the work in between events gains momentum.

• Convener of groups
• Regional sustainability awareness and delineation of importance for bioregional approach
• Support bioregional visioning in communities
• Identification of regional assets and challenges toward achieving sustainability
• Identification of strategic collaboration opportunities
• Discovery of existing science to support public actions and jurisdictional decision-making
• Development of new sustainability science and strategic communication needs to better support future policy for the Cascadia Region
• Assistance to communities wanting to develop strategic sustainability planning agenda
• Cascadia Convergence 2008 to be convened at a host city to be determined.
