Facilitation for Sustainable Community Development Within a Bioregional Framework
• Sustainable Cascadia stewards a collaborative process of change toward sustainability over several years where we facilitate an alignment of strategies, share/leverage resources, plan/implement actions, learn, and celebrate what’s working.
• Sustainable Cascadia invites and stewards an alliance of organizations and individuals to collaborate on an action agenda that engages stakeholders throughout the Cascadia Bioregion. Stewardship toward sustainability requires expanding participation and a sustained approach for developing this kind of social capacity to address complex, systemic issues.
• Sustainable Cascadia brings experience and effective methods for hosting social learning and collaborative process. We can convene stakeholders, reconcile issues, and integrate diverse needs and perspectives across differences to achieve common ground and collaborative solutions for the common good.
WISERCascadia
This open source portal of the WISEREarth website provides a system for social networking. Sustainable Cascadia in collaboration with Ecotrust, stewards the Cascadia portal of WISEREarth, a site dedicated to identify and connect organizations who are already working toward sustainability in Cascadia. It provides community functions like an event calendar, a key word search function, and other tools to support finding affinity groups and forming a coalition of effort. Anyone can participate. The WISERCascadia portal benefits by being part of a global network of connectivity in service to sustainability and social justice.
Cascadia Convergence
Sustainable Cascadia invites the bioregional hubs that are already sustainability leaders to host a series of Cascadia Convergence events to orchestrate collaboration and expanding participation of the public in the initiative. These community-wide gatherings start in Seattle, October 2007 and continue annually until 2012.
Education for bioregional sustainability and collaboration
Sustainable Cascadia will build partnerships with educational organizations and the scientific community to offer education at the Cascadia Convergence events and to the sustainable development initiatives we support ongoingly. We partner with educational and resource organizations that provide specific competence in areas like: bioregional frameworks for sustainability, scientific knowledge on sustainability issues, best practices for addressing sustainability issues, resource organizations for technical work on sustainability, e.g carbon footprints, business/NGO/government specific sustainable development strategies, leadership/community development skills and practices, change leadership and process facilitation, models for sustainable community development, K-12 sustainability education for teachers and kids, on-line tools and collaborative technology to support community development, social change methods, personal growth and more.
